Volkswagen Golf models discontinued

Now it's official, check out the Volkswagen Golf models that discontinued after more than 50 years in Latin America.

But don't worry, because if you're a fan of performance, the Mk8 Golf R and GTI are still available.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that VW has discontinued the Golf.

Sales of the Golf (all versions including the GTI, Golf R, E-Golf and Sportwagen) reached nearly 69,000 in 2017.

This was right around the time when the VW introduced a massive, albeit temporary, warranty update for several models. But, they have steadily declined since then.

That way, in 2020, Volkswagen sold less than 22,000. For comparison, Honda sold so many Civics every month last year.

So, you know that when a car has a lot of sales in other countries, only then does it come to the Brazilian market.

Because of this drop in sales, what happened is that the Golf also stopped being manufactured in Brazil, except for the following sports models: GTI and Golf R.

The new GTI format will offer 241 horsepower and the option of manual transmission, while the Golf R increases from 27 horsepower to 315.

While the previous generation had fewer horses. All models hail from Mexico, the 2022 GTI and R will be built in Wolfsburg, Germany.

These cars became the darling of drivers due to having arrived at a time when gasoline was very expensive, being the year 1974.

In this way, this car was considered very economical for the time.

History tells us that a new generation would likely bring a spike in sales.

But as automakers are favoring SUVs that are more profitable, Volkswagen's desire to produce electric vehicles for the US.

So, what we have left is to wait for these new VW models to arrive here in Brazil.
