New 2023 Mercedes GLE seen in AMG 53 form
New Mercedes GLE: Mercedes is in the midst of updating its SUV lineup. The new GLC is the company's best-selling car worldwide, and the GLS is getting a mid-life upgrade. The GLE sits in between these models in terms of size and is also about to undergo a revamp.
We expect the newly revised Mercedes GLE to launch in 2023, alongside the new GLC and GLS – perhaps serving as a reminder that Mercedes hasn't forgotten about its all-important internal-combustion engine SUVs in the face of its rapidly growing electric EQ. of brand.
The GLE is getting some new rivals in the form of the Volvo EX90 and the new Range Rover Sport. That means Mercedes' current offering, first launched in 2019, is starting to look less new.

In this latest test car we can see the new front bumper with very limited camouflage. It incorporates the same blade-shaped lower bumper design seen on the facelifted A-Class and the new C-Class. The slatted radiator grille and LED headlights have also been redesigned.
The changes to the rear aren't as noticeable, with the only major upgrade being a set of new taillights. Even the lower valence of the current car – a usual candidate for a facelift – seems to have remained unchanged.
Inside, we're expecting some minor upholstery tweaks and a new steering wheel, similar to Mercedes' strategy with the newly revamped E-Class. The infotainment system on previous prototypes appears to be the same dual-screen system found on the current GLE, although we expect Mercedes to load it with the latest MBUX software.
Mercedes shouldn't mess with the GLE's engines too much for this facelift either. As before, there will be six options for buyers to choose from, starting with the 300 d.
It is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 268hp and 550Nm of torque which, like all models in the GLE range, will be mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system.

Above that will be the 400 d, which features a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine with 325 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Those with zero emission capacity (or low company car rate) will be able to opt for the GLE 350. It has a plug-in hybrid engine, which mixes a 2.0 liter diesel with an electric motor and a 31 kWh battery to a combined power of 316 hp.
