BMW X1: the power of choice

BMW offered the third generation of its X1 a wide technological palette, from 100% electric to gasoline and diesel micro-hybrids, including two plug-in hybrid versions. It's enough to maintain an undeniable success.

An undeniable success since its launch in 2009, the model has sold more than 2.7 million copies. The BMW X1 was again the first premium compact SUV sold in the world in 2021 with 240,000 units (+5%).

In the last year, it has surpassed the Volvo XC40 (200,000 units; +7%), the Audi Q3 (185,000; +14%) and the Mercedes-Benz GLA (127,000; +11%). Produced in Regensburg, Germany, together with the X2, Series 1 and Series 2 Active Tourer, the X1 is an essential model for the Bavarian brand.

On the design side, the affiliation is clear with previous generations, but also with current BMW productions. We find in particular the hypertrophied nostrils and inside, a floating center console as in the last Series 2 Active Tourer.

Digital and connectivity also gained strength in the panel with two screens (10.23 and 10.7”) running with the new OS 8.0. The X1's equipment has nothing to envy to its big brothers, particularly as far as the Adas is concerned, as long as you add a few options.

Even though this generation has grown a little, it remains in the segment rankings. With 5.3 cm longer, 2.4 cm wide, 4.4 cm high and 2.2 cm of wheelbase, at the same time it improves its aerodynamics with a Cd of just 0.26.

In terms of mechanics, the X1 cuvée 2022 is full. It is available, at launch on September 29, 2022, in traditional petrol and diesel versions (18i and 18d). However, also micro-hybrid at 48 V with an electric motor of 14 kW (19 hp) placed in the dual clutch gearbox (23i). and 23d).

The benefits of electrification allow the 23d (211 hp and 124 to 141 g/km of CO2) to evade the entry penalty and even do better than the 18d, but only in two-wheel drive and 150 hp (129 to 146 g). ). /km).

From November 2022, production of the PHEV and 100% electric versions will begin. The X1 25º (245 hp combined) and 30º (326 hp), thanks to a 14.2 kWh battery placed on the ground, boast 81 km of electric range in WLTP and up to 107 km in urban cycle.

Its CO2 emissions range from 15 to 23 g/km. With the all-electric iX1, BMW announces a range of 414 to 440 km thanks to the battery's useful capacity of 64.7 kWh. This model with an output of 230 kW (313 hp) has an 11 kW charger (22 kW as an option). It can only collect 130 kW in direct current.
